If you ask my wife I should be the last person to give anyone advice about clothes shopping. Clothes shopping can cause a lot of financial damage to an ADD adult. Something that is useful on a financial and an organizational level is to make a list of how much of each item of clothing that you need and how much of each item you actually have (and wear). A sample of my list would look like this.
2 Suits (ok) 6 Dress Shirts ok 6 Dress Pants ( need 1 ) 6 Ties (have 10) 9 Pairs of Black Socks (ok) 1 Blazer (ok) 6 Pairs of White Socks (ok) 12 T-Shirts (need 3) 12 pairs of Underwear (need 2) 2 Pairs of Jeans (ok) 2 Pairs of Casual Pants (ok) 1 Pairs of Dress Shoes (ok) 2 Pairs of Sneakers ( need 1) 2 Pairs of Casual Shoes (etc.)
There are three main positive reasons for coming up with a wardrobe list, and reviewing it every couple of months.
1. It will focus your clothes shopping trips on items that you actually need.
2. It will help you to not buy too much of a particular items that you love. (If you only wear 12 pairs of shoes, you will have to decide what shoes you want to get rid of before buying a new pair.)
3. If you have too much of a particular item for your needs, you can give them to charity thus reducing your clothes clutter. ( If you have problems deciding what clothes to give away, invite a friend over for a second opinion and to help you to get the job done)
If nothing else making a list of how much clothing you actually own will help you realize how lucky you are to have so many clothes and will make you think twice before buying new items.
