3 ways it costs more to be a women
Based on the feedback that I received from my post 3 Ways it costs more being a man, I decided to do a post about ways it costs more to be a women.
1. Women pay more for services. According to a Washington State NOW Position Paper women pay more for the following good and services. According to a 2001 study done by the THE PENNSYLVANIA PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP women paid an average of $9.42 more than men for regular haircuts. Women also paid an average of $1.74 more than men for dry cleaning on shirts. If you assume that women have 8 haircuts in a year and have 50 shirts dry cleaned in a year, it costs women $162.36 more a year.
2. Women pay more for Health Care. According to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services paper on Women's Health, for the year 2000 women paid an average of $124.00 more a year on Health Care than men.
3. Women pay more for retirement. According to a U.S. Department of Labor , Bureau of Statistics Report the average salary was $39,354.00. According to a recent article in USA Today women live an average of five years longer than men. If you assume that you need 70 percent of your income for retirement it will cost an average of $137,739 more for women than men in retirement. This is a conservative figure because I did not account for inflation or the salary differentiation for men vs. women.

Very typical foibles of women. But in some cases, they spend very thriftly..and also take care of saving money for future uses.

The post was not intended to focus on gender behavior, it is intended to show differences by gender with expenses where there is a lack of control and/or fairness.
It is not acceptable that businesses such as hair dressers and dry cleaners are able to charge women more money for similar serivces.
