ADD or ADHD

  • The correct medical term for Attention Deficit Disorder is ADHD. There are 3 subtypes of ADHD: Predominantly inattentive(commonly called ADD), Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and Combined. Through out this blog and the ADHD related sites linked from this blog the terms ADHD, AD/HD, and ADD are used interchangeably.

Building A Support Network

Guest By NCN at  No Credit Needed & No Credit Needed Network

I want to thank John for the continuing opportunity to post articles as a "Guest Author".  I'm a big fan of Adult ADD and Money.

If you have decided to get out of debt, save some money, and organize your finances, congratulations!  You are beginning to make some of the BEST decisions of your life.  Let me encourage you to do one thing:  Find (or create) a support network.  When I decided to get out of debt, I looked around at my friends and family, and realized that I didn't really know anyone who had succeeded in living a debt-free lifestyle.  In other words, there was no "readily-available support network".  So, I had to go out and find like-minded people.  The MAIN reason that I started blogging about my personal finances was that I needed some "outside" voices cheering for me.   I readily admit that I NEED the positive input that only other people can give.  (Hey, even the Loan Ranger had Tonto!)  Find people who will encourage you, support you, and be real with you.  There is no shame in admitting that you need help, support, or encouragement!

One caveat:  While I believe in a support network, I do not believe that you need someone who "speaks from the mountain top" and tries to tell you what you should be doing with your finances.  Find a group of people with whom you feel comfortable.  Don't be intimidated by some "expert".  All you need to succeed is a plan, some determination, education, and some support.  You don't need another boss! :)

Editor's Note - Support systems are great for Adults with ADHD, but sometimes it can be overwhelming to start or to join a support system. Start by giving support, it can be as simple as a positive comment on a blog or group or asking someone a money related question, getting and giving support takes practice.

NCN, thanks for writing this article.

It's been great to have a network of fellow bloggers, including NCN, to direct me towards a debt-free life. I especially thank Nick at Punny.org (my actual neighbor) because he's helped me out personally to see the light.

And by blogging, I help myself stay on track and motivated to get rid of my debt!
