Lately I have been in a funk. I think my funk began with allergy season and the nasty assortment of pollen in the air. In the past being in a funk has affected my finances negatively in two ways. When I was in a funk I never felt like paying the bills, so I never paid them. In most cases I had the money to pay them; I was just never in the mood to pay them. The only thing that motivated me to pay any bills when I was in a funk was the threat of shutting of the heat, electricity, or worse of all cable TV. The other way that my funk affected me was that I spent more money on little things to make me happy or to avoid cooking. When I have been in a funk I would have take out 4 or more times a week, I would also buy more sweets, CD's, movies, and video games.
Since many ADD adults are more likely to be emotionally sensitive, a funk impacts an ADD adult harder that other people. As I have grown wiser, I have been better able to deal with emotional funks. The first step is to accept that you are in a funk. By accepting that you are in a funk you are better able to forgive yourself for making poor decisions, and this can help you avoid a downward spiral of guilt that will just lead to more bad decisions to make yourself feel better. I have found that having a system to pay bills has made it easier to pay bills when I am in a funk. I pay bills and update my budget on every Friday, since I have a set time for paying bills; it was a lot harder to make excuses as to why I did not want to pay my bills today. It also helps to have a separate rainy day savings fund, so that you able to spend a little money without feeling guilty.

Yeah sometimes we have those days. I don't know if this solves the problem but online banking could help a little.

Doing things even when you don't feel like it is hard but it's what you need to do. I think having a system set up is wise because it will lead you to make better choices about your finances. The last thing you want is to miss your mortgage payment or insurance bill. Late fees and finance charges will not help your mood!
