For those of you who are not aware, I do not have ADHD. My wife, Tara McGillicuddy has ADHD and is the director and founder of ADDClasses.com. Tara is also the author of My ADD / ADHD Blog, where she shares tips, advice, and her own experiences in dealing with her ADD Moments. Tara recently has found her car keys after they had gone missing for two months. She has already written two posts about her experience, Dealing with my Lost Keys and Yes, I lost my keys! .
This post isn't about how she has dealt with her ADD Moment, this post is about how I dealt with the lost keys. Every morning before I go to work, I like to check my e-mail, on this particular morning I got an e-mail that my wife had sent me at 1:15am asking "Have you seen my car keys?". My first reaction is one of panic, I know she had several things she needed to do that day, and it would not be pleasant if I got home from work and she was still unable to find keys.
My second reaction was one of gratitude. Tara had been looking for her keys before she sent me the 1:15 am e-mail and had managed not to wake me up. There have been previous times when Tara has been so focused on finding an item around midnight that she has woken me up. (I can be very grumpy when I have been woken up in the middle of the night.)
Before I left for work I spent fifteen minutes looking for her keys. I looked in several of the usual places including looking on our cluttered kitchen table, the box we use to organize mail, and the ignition of my wife's car. I did not find her keys, but luckily I was able to find my spare key and I left it on her desk. As I left for work I never realized it would take so long for Tara to find her missing keys.
In my next post I will let you know why I think I am usually good at finding Tara's missing items and why I felt responsible for the missing keys.
